Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Avila joined Global Voices as a volunteer writer in 2005, where he served as Latin America and Spanish Editor from 2007 to 2010 and currently serves as Director of the Rising Voices, a Global Voices Initiative to support marginalized communities to harness the Internet to meet their self-determined needs.

Jean Maillard

After earning a PhD in Computational Linguistics, Jean Maillard joined the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) Team at Meta as an AI Researcher. His research area is Artificial Intelligence applied to Computational Linguistics. His research interests include Machine Translation, Speech Technologies and the application of Natural Language Processing to Under-resourced and Endangered Languages. He is a member of Conseggio pe-o patrimònio linguistico ligure (Council for Ligurian Linguistic Heritage).
